THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF HIGH WATER PRESSURE
IN YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS

DOES MY HOME HAVE HIGH WATER PRESSURE?

Your water pressure depends on a few different factors and can change at any time. The best way to know is to have it tested. We recommend a pressure setting between 60 to 80 PSI (pounds per square inch).

High pressure indicators:

  • Constant problems with leaks
  • Rattling or banging sound from pipes when a faucet, washer, or dishwasher shuts off
  • Pressure relief valve on the water heater fails
  • Increased water pressure at faucets and shower heads

WHY MONITOR MY WATER PRESSURE?

Many homes have a pressure reducing valve (regulator) installed, but it may not be functioning properly. Because the pressure of the incoming water supply to your home can fluctuate, it is important to ensure you have a functioning regulator. Water pressures tend to rise at times when little or no water is being used. This occurs nightly when little water in your community is used. Also pressure can build in your home while you are traveling away from home and there is no water usage.

A sudden rise, or “spike”, of the water pressure entering your home, can cause damage to appliances and other parts of the home. Most appliances can only handle a certain amount of pressure before they fail and a functioning and properly set pressure regulator can prevent this issue. Water softeners, filters, and reverse osmosis drinking water systems have tanks and cartridges that may burst or crack due to increased water pressure. A burst or cracked tank and/or cartridge can cause leaks or major flooding.

  2. Get your water pressure tested, Advanced Water Solution can do this for you
  3. Immediately replace any regulator that is not working
  4. Periodically check your regulator and watch for any of the indicators
